Hi. Just a reminder if you are signing the guestbook not to use a comma anywhere in the entry fields. This somewhat strange request is due to previously unmanageable guestbook spam. As the requirement not to use a comma seems to have been quite effective in stopping this spam I have cautiously removed the requirement for me to validate all entries. So entries should appear in the guestbook right away.

Hi! I really like your website! It's cool that people still use websites like these instead of boring old facebook. I have actually been to Whitewell once - when Nicky Cruz was speaking there a number of years ago. I wish you all the best!

Reply: Thank you Xander and great to hear from you. Yes I was also at the Nicky Cruz night - place was packed :)

Gavin,
We have a HUGE amount in common and I tried sending you an email, but it has bounced back. Your email link is not correct. Can you email a correct one!
Thanks,

Reply: Hi Doug, great to hear from you and sorry for the delay in validating this guestbook entry. You need to remove the 'I hate spam' bit from the email link for it to work - sorry. But I've enough issues with spam having trawled through >950 junk guestbook entries to validate about 5!

Hi All
Just wanted to make a GB entry to confirm that it still works, and to say that I've done a few updates to my website, including some nice new pics of my garden. That is all!
Oh, and also very sincere apologies to the authors of several of the GB entries below. It's been so long since I updated the site that I forgot I had to log in to validate GB entries. Sorry again! :/

I was curious as to all the snow my family in North Wales were getting and your webcam was featured on wunderground. Following that link I find your very nice home page and a link to the same church that a dear friend of my sister attends. She has already sent me links to your church video streams and I was very impressed. It would be wonderful to something like that at my church but it is much smaller than the Met. Still, with our very limited resources I am operating camera and occasionally video directing, so your studio pics were very interesting. I will have to come back and explore more of your page/s. God bless you and your family.

Reply: Thanks for the comments Richard, glad the site was useful. And sorry for the long delay in replying :/

Hi Gavin, this is Edward (eddie on EPS). Noticed recently that you're into sat tv.Just had a motorised system installed here.Receiver is Technomate 5402HD with Triax TD88 dish and Inverto Black Ultra LNB. Also got Sky minidish for Freesat and HumaxHD and PVR. I just love messing about looking for feeds etc. The wife isn't too keen on the dish size but personally I wish I'd got the Triax 110 for better reception of Nilesat 7W. All the best Edward.

Reply: Hi Eddie, great to hear from you! Yea I used to play a lot more with the sat tv but don't get the same time these days. Strange you should mention the 5402HD as I bought the Blade BM7000S last year which is essentially yhe same machine. Love it - I downloaded a 5402HD channel list which worked just fine. Yea I have a 1m and a 1.2m dish, they are a bit big but they are both patio-mounted and I'm growing plants behind them. So not too bad. They are also in the back garden behind a fence so aren't visible from the front of the house! All the best with your new system :) Regards Gav.

Yes I have heard that Cordylines should recover. They have been fine here in Bangor, and up in coastal Donegal I've noticed too, but even in Belfast they have all been seriously affected.

No we had lower than -2C, we had -4.5C, right on the North Down coast path, but I know people in Bangor just 2.5miles inland who recorded -8.1C. That palm that I lost can only take temperatures down to -2C, thats what i meant lol!

Best of luck with the palm recovery this spring haha!

Hey! I have followed your site with interest in recent years, as I have also been growing a few palms here in Bangor.

How did yours cope with this winter, I have seen many across NI dead already, even right on the coast in Holywood.

I have lost one very delicate one (Min -2C), with surprisingly survived last winter!

Thankfully doubled digit temperatures have now returned!

Reply: Hi there :)
I'll be posting an update sometime soon, some stuff is damaged but most seems ok so far. Guess I won't know until spring is well established.
Yea the cordylines were badly hit this year, most places having seen all time record lows :( but they should recover.
Did you seriously only see -2C??? I doubt it this winter. If so, I want to live where you live!!!

As a former Belfast native, your website is excellent, such a nice selection of palms. Yes hard to believe but parts of "norn iron" are in a milder climate zone than parts of Florida, Gainesville included (zone 8B). Very nice to see someone with a garden with more exotics than the usual boring hedge and grass and a handful of bulbs, so keep up the good work. I think there is a T.fortuni infront of the palm house at the Botanical Gardens behind Queen's (well it used to be there). I have book marked your page and will be sure to check it from time to time.

Reply: Cool! Although direct comparison with climate zones in the US is a wee bit dodgy...... bet you can still grow many more palms in your 8b than I can in my 9a..... BTW we had an 8b winter last year :( but still can grow palms :)

My son, Barrett, swam in the Irish Nationals Apr29/May2. May 3rd the swim group toured around Dublin. We just received word they will not be flying home as scheduled due to the ash from the Icelandic volcano. Thank you for having your webcam set up. I will check again for as long s my son and the other swimmers are not permitted to fly to the USA.

Thank you!
